Venus Greatest Elongation

March 20, 2022 marks Venus’s greatest western elongation, 47° away from the Sun. Venus has been rising as a morning star since January 19, 2022. At that point, Venus was low on the horizon, rising shortly before Sunrise.

Venus was moving slowly through post retroShade til mid February, at about 1/2 a degree a day. Once Venus was out of their post retroshade, they started moving at their typical speed of 1º a day, causing Venus and the Sun to separate, which. means Venus’s rise time was getting earlier and earlier.

“After it’s direct station, the planet gradually picks up speed, moving towards its greatest elongation ahead of the Sun as a morning star appearing in the Eastern sky. During its greatest elongation , it travels an average rate of speed. The planet then begins its descent as a morning star in the east, gradually increasing speed until it is 15º from the Sun, where it makes its morning set, disappearing from view” Demetra George from ‘Ancient Astrology In Theory and Practice: A manual of Traditional Techniques Volume 1’

You can see the speed of Venus ( and all of the planets in the Solar System) by looking at an ephermis. Here is an online version for 2022. 2022 ephemeris

The second video is a time-lapse taken between 6:50-7:40 am. If you scroll in the top of the tree line of the middle tree, you will see Venus, and you can watch them move westward as the Sun comes up. This video shows the movement of the Solar System. You can see both the Sun and Venus move (Mars and Saturn are also there, but are not visible due to tree line) You can watch the light of Venus get absorbed by the Sun’s light. time lapse of Venus as Great elongation

What do we know about a morning star Venus?

“Venus is strong and effective as a morning star, although she does not rejoice because she is of the nocturne sect and ahead of the Sun. … The Morning star destination for Mercury and Venus is limited to the duration from their helical morning rise to their morning set. During this time, they are visible, direct in motion, and gaining speed and thus generally effective in bring about their significations, strongest around their greatest elongation” Demetra George from ‘Ancient Astrology In Theory and Practice: A manual of Traditional Techniques Volume 1’

In summation, Venus is effective because they are fast and direct, but not as happy as they would be if they were an evening star. (Venus is the night/nocttunal sect benefic)

What do we know about this moment in time (March 20, 2022)

Venus is conjunct Mars. Mars rules Aries, so part of the strength on their conjunction may be helpful. though technically, because Venus moves faster than Mars, Venus is ‘separating from Mars’ which means, they are in relationship through a tight conjunction, but Venus is zipping past, and may not hear Mars. Today, is the Vernal Equinox, also known as the first day of Spring, or the first day of Aries Season.

Venus’s greatest elongation is happening at Tropical Aquarius 13º. Venus is peregrine which means Venus does not have essential dignity in Aquarius. The term peregrine means wanderer.

Venus will soon be in their sign of exaltation: Pisces (April 5- May 2, 2022)
